Mexico City.- Yahoo announced a partnership with Yelp, in hopes to improve the local search results for its search engine.

The partnership was unveiled during an employee meeting with the company’s CEO, Marissa Mayer, and according to an inside source, this new feature will be available in the next weeks. Details about the partnership are yet to be released.

Since the beginning of her tenure as CEO, Mayer has made an overhaul on the company’s business model, with the ultimate goal of returning Yahoo to its old days of leadership in the market.  Recently, web search engines are paying more attention to local businesses, since users have become more interested on information about them, while they use smartphones more often to navigate the Internet.

Specialized in showing local businesses listings, images and reviews on its mobile mapping software, Yelp has previously done similar partnerships with Microsoft and Apple .

Mayer was involved with Yelp back when she was head of search at Google, during the 2009 attempt to acquire the company led by Jeremy Stoppelman for at least 500 million dollars.
