Apple is ready to launch TV box

Mexico City, February 14, 2014.- Apple Inc. would launch a new Apple TV set-top box by April, in order to have it available for sale by the Christmas holidays, though the date is not yet official.

The Cupertino-based company has not revealed any details about this new product, but according to inside sources, is currently negotiating with Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC), as well as with other potential partners to add video content.

Apple is also securing new agreements with programming and distribution partners, said two people with knowledge of the matter.

The TV box would be plugged into the television set, will have a faster processor than a previous version and an upgraded interface. These new improvements would make it easier for users to navigate between TV shows, movies and other content.

This report surfaces in the midst of the acquisition of TWC by Comcast, which would make the latter the biggest cable-TV company in the United States. It is not clear if this would affect a potential Apple-TWC deal.

Apple TV would mark the beginning of a year full of new products, as the company’s CEO Tim Cook promised last year. Among other plans that have been rumored are a smartwatch. This comes at a moment where sales and profit for Apple have stagnated.

A deal with Time Warner would let Apple TV customer to watch a wider menu of live TV channels.
